In 2004, the School Board was faced with having to
cut the long-running Sailor Circus youth program from its budget.
Sheriff William F. Balkwill, who has a history of strong support for the
youth of Sarasota County, and the Police Athletic League (PAL) took
immediate action and PAL took over the operation of Sailor Circus. This
transition gave the circus much needed stability and organization, and
ensured a bright future for the program. PAL’s involvement has brought
many benefits and possibilities to the Sailor Circus.
Sailor Circus is now stronger than ever and is poised
to rise to a new level as it embarks on a fundraising mission to
renovate their current facilities and enhance the opportunities
available to the children and families of the Sarasota community.
